Ok this is mainly the fault of the mod creator for not telling people how to easily install the texture.
TO THE MOD MAKERS: tell people which package they should select to import and save the texture exactly as the one it will replace

How to install:
Open posted (the postal editor), click the texture browser (displayed on top row by a little hill and sun) and find the dropdown the mod maker has stated, go file>import and select the texture mod, set compression to DXT3, once imported go file>save (from the texture browser window) and save the package. Hey presto, easy :)

i finally sorted out my issue , i found out that when u want to import/ replace a tex u must do "load entire package" otherwise not all the tex are loaded.

I still have 2 suggestions:

1- It would be nice to have a tex map, like a doc which tells you what tex are used in the game so you can check it and don't forget one ( a compare tool would be even better).Maybe it exists in the editor but i could not figure out how to.

2- character preview - are there tools for that ? postED ?
postED does not run on my laptop ( I know i am below REQs) even though the game runs.... Are there any other tools that I can use ?

Cheers !!

yeah that would be neat a preview browser to see my textures on a character. before i upload them so to speak.. its alot of hassle trying to do these then run the game to see my guy or women walking around in the dodgy green no texture suit.

I know neffy replied to me in porting over bmps etc without the need to make the dss but converting the Sims skins to work as textures. Has become a major pain lol they look great in adobe and uploaded in post ed but in game they are still green lifeless textures.

any help would be appreciated, becuase i will play for hours with this and bring some nice textures to the game.

Still needs a way to do it simpler than this.
I can do it, but few will take their time installing a mod if they are required to build it themselves.

Best Regards

you can edit the dds files in photoshop just install the dds extension. If i can find link i will post it. Nvidia.com has the dds extension i think.

this will enable you to load in dds files edit them. Remember if using photoshop to flatten image as i have found you will not be able to save as dds if there is more than 1 layer.

my whole game is full of sims character skins. I tell you there is some real nice skins out there to hack. How i installed.

export the dds skin you want to replace with post ed

Loaded paintshop pro.
resized 256x256 BMP (sim skin) file to 512x512 saved

loaded photoshop
loaded my sims skin and also the dds file i want to replace.
then edit to your hearts content.

Remember to marque tool then copy and paste the neck and feet section. Place this where they are on the dds skin on the BMP. some sims skins will need to mirrored first due to the clothing being on the oposite side.

then once you have edited the BMP so your real happy with it. close the dds file and save as the BMP to a .DSS extension and the exact name of the skin you wish to replace. You will get the Direct draw window pop up make sure you put the mips at 10 and make sure its on DX3 compression.

Save.

then import it into postal ed and once in you might need to go to the properties of the picture and change its status from world skin to Skin.

Then laugh your arse off when you see your dude in game :)

so far i have freddy kruger, loads of different types of zombies, britney spears ( whos awesome to kill with the awesome pestilence mod ) i have also naked chicks and my prize character sadam huisan.

very import note always back up the files you change guys put the in a seperate folder.

Have fun, this way is probably the most over the top way of doing things. I never knew how to do it but just tried to figure it out myself. If anyone has an easier way then please post.

Hello I am very new at this however I think I can learn how to make mods to the game.

But my Question is...Is it possible to take your own picture and convert it to a texture so that I can use that in the game?? Is there some program that can convert a .jpg or .bmp to work in the editor??

Please help ..I have a couple of "friends" I would like to have in my postal maps  :)

If anyone has an example I would like to see it or if someone could mail it???

The only programs you need to edit textures in Postal is a image editing program such as paintshop pro or photoshop with the DDS plugin! The DDS plugin will let you view dds images with paintshop or photoshop and save images as DDS. Once you've edited the texture, you'd save it as a BMP, DDS or TGA and then import it back to the editor. PostED will do the rest for you! :;):

I got a problem when I want to save my changes on skintextures. It always says, that the new file has less size than the existing file on disk. Whats wrong? I can`t figure this out.

thats often an occuring ...."thing" just ignore it and save your new .utx-file.
But never forget to make an copy before replacing a file!
