Interview with Vince Desi - November 24, 2003.

As Running With Scissors announces the self-publishing of POSTAL 2: Share The Pain, the Multiplayer Edition of the game and POSTAL 3 gets confirmed for PC and Xbox, Vince Desi, RWS' founder and CEO, answers some brief questions on what's going on.

PostalNetwork: Why did RWS decide to self-publish POSTAL 2: Share The Pain?

Vince Desi: The most important reason is that we know and understand the product better than anyone, and self publishing gives us total control. We dont have to listen to some idiot who has no experience in development or marketing and who overcharges for services he doesn't perform. Thats the classic publisher who screws you in the game industry and of course they all claim to be be different, bullshit.

PN:  What happened with Whiptail Interactive, when we met at ECTS I thought you and the president were close?

Vince Desi: Since late last week I've been bombarded with calls and emails from the media and fans asking me What happened with your publisher? and more important, Is POSTAL 2 multiplayer coming out for Xmas? Everyone here is busting their ass trying as hard as we can to get POSTAL 2: Share The Pain out for Xmas. As for what hapenned between us and our ex-publisher, heres what I have to say:

Yesterday, it was brought to my attention by one of the nice fellas at my ex publisher, that I cannot discuss or comment on what the terms of our divorce are, thats fine no problem. However, it is important for the record to note that Running With Scissors terminated the agreement with them for a variety of breaches on their part. I have no further comment on the details.

However, our fans, people in the game industry, and especially the development community deserve to know the truth and how I feel about the situation. Let me put it this way... if I was dying of a rare disease and he was the only one who had the cure, I would commit suicide first before seeking his help.

PN:  Will this imply any future projects?

Vince Desi: Shit yeah, I've already got developers calling and asking for help. The industry typically ignores the small independent developer, not us, I look forward to helping developers publish their titles and really work on a partnership level. We're still a developer and that will help us as a publisher.

PN:  Will the game be available outside the U.S. and in Europe?

Vince Desi: Yes, POSTAL 2: Share The Pain will also be available in Japan and Russia.

PN: Is RWS aiming for any specific date for the release of POSTAL 2: Share The Pain?

Vince Desi: In the USA it will be in stores for Xmas and also in Japan. For Europe and Russia it looks like after New Years.

PN: Can you share any preliminar information on POSTAL 3?

Vince Desi: All I can say is we will always strive to make the next thing we do more outrageous than anything we've ever done before, thats a promise!

PN: Will the Xbox version [of POSTAL 3] be developed by RWS?

Vince Desi: The plan is to develop POSTAL 3 for the Xbox and PC, and we would design and develop both in-house. No matter what I can guarantee that all POSTAL products will always be designed by RWS.
